As a popular beauty queen, TV host and a ramp model Aruni shifted to film acting in 2012.  Even though Aruni aspired to be a model she gained accolades as an actress. Her performance in Paththini movie as Madhavi won the Best Actress in a Supporting role at 2017 Derana Film Awards and was awarded the Best Supporting Actress at the 19th Presidential Film Awards.  She was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress award for her role as Dewli in Priyantha Colombage musical Adaraneeya Kathawak at the 40^th Signis Awards 2017.
